So when you are looking for art for a photographer's apartment it only makes sense to start with cameras!  Kelly's walls are super boringly bare. . . so we set off to find her the perfect camera print -

The K & A Apartment Project: Work Space

In a bit of extra space behind the sofa and in between the bedroom and patio doors is an area that is going to be used as a work space.

We want to mix the pieces already there (a desk & leaning bookshelf) and new pieces to create a space that is comfortable to work in while blending seamlessly into the living room -





I want to fill the shelf with pretty storage pieces (it is a work space after all) and some more fun & quirky objects that reflect K & A's personalities.

As for the desk we need to find a good comfy chair and a task light for late night photo editing.  Then dress up the space with some nifty letter shaped corkboards spelling out the work "photo" (as per K's request) and a few pieces of art in simple black frames (here & here).

 

Design Note: if this space wasn't being used for a work space I would totally go for a gallery wall with a cafe table like this one.

The K & A Apartment Project: Narrowing It Down

If you recall, I was hunting for some stool options for the K & A apartment project. After viewing all the crazy options I had given them it was decided that the stools needed to have a back, be well priced, & easy to slipcover.

Armed with the new parameters I think I might have found a contender -

It's the HENRIKSDAL stool from Ikea! They fit the bill pretty darn well: they have a back, they run in price from $90 to $100 depending on the finish, and their simple lines are a slipcover lover's dream.

The ultimate choice belongs to K & A, but I think these are pretty much spot on.

K & A Apartment Project: Stool Pigeons

One downside to the nice big apartment with room for a giant sectional and a humongous wall unit is that there isn't any space for a dining area.

Luckily there is a nice size breakfast bar that, with the right stools, could fit four people. Now we just have to find those right stools.

The price range of the stools run from under $50 to over $1,000. Since the choice isn't ultimately mine, I want to get a good idea of what K & A like, and then we'll go bargain hunting.

The K & A Apartment Project: A Blank Slate

We're starting a new series - the K & A Apartment Project! My good friend Kelly (the "K" in K & A) is going to be shacking up with here boyfriend (the "A" in K & A) and for once I don't have to force my decorating advice on someone (like I did here), it is actually welcomed!

The apartment itself is a nice sized one bedroom with a large living room and is pretty much a blank slate.  The large furniture pieces are already in place -

They have a giant (and super comfy) Karlstad sectional, a large Lack coffee table (both from Ikea), and a GINORMOUS beast of an entertainment unit,  origin unknown (the Expedit is the closest thing I could find).

We have a whole list of things we need to find for the space:

• storage baskets for the beast
• art
• rug
• desk
• desk chair
• accessories
• bar stools (for breakfast bar)
• kitchen items

and that's just for starts. . .

Lordy, I can't wait to drag Kelly down to the Container Store!
