sick

I've had the flu - not the 24 hour kind, but the it's been over a week and I still feel as though I was hit by a Mac truck kind. I should most likely still be in bed, but after 6 days in bed with no t.v. - boredom won over and I went back to work.

update: it's been a full two weeks, and I am still not 100%, but I am pretty much back to being a fully functional human being. Man this flu was nasty.

Christmas Eve of Memory Lane

When I was little my mom would take me to work with her on Christmas Eve. She worked for an insurance statistical (?) company (to this day I still don't know what she really did) and Christmas Eve was her company's "family day". My mom and I would go in early so that we could have breakfast in cafe - I had my first bagel there. After breakfast my mom would take me upstairs to her cubicle and let me rearrange her bulletin board, then we would go cubicle to cubicle meeting all her co-workers (most who had some sort of candy in anticipation of all the children).
Once all the kids were about to burst from sugar consumption they would send us kids into a large meeting room and project Christmas movies onto a wall for us (this was back in the 1980s, so this was beyond cool at the time). When the movie was over our parents would find us and take us downstairs to the cafe for the company holiday lunch.

Too Much Shopping

I never thought I would live to see the day, but here it is, and I am tired of shopping!!

My roommate and I did a marathon shopping binge in an effort to complete all our Christmas shopping.

Unfortunately for me and my wallet, I still have at least three things to left buy before I can consider myself completely done.

Licorice - quick update

Guess who was waiting for me when I got home from work yesterday!! That annoying little cat is still bothering her, but at least she came home and I can stop worrying about her.

Now if only I could get rid of, ummm, I mean find a home for the little cat.

Anyone in the South Florida area want a very friendly leopard spotted cat - she appears to be declawed - she just needs someone to pay attention to her - I'll even throw in some cat treats. . . If you are interested, just leave a comment with your email address.

Sofa Disappointment

I had been eyeing this adjustable sofa at Urban Outfitters for a while now.

I liked the lines, I liked that it turned into a sleeper, I liked the price.

So when I spotted it in the Savannah U.O. store I was all excited to get to try it out in person. Unfortunately, in person, the sofa was a disappointment. It wasn't comfy at all, and because the back reclines, the fabric was all bunched together and those clean lines that I loved were tainted.

Your Weekly Emmett Fix

(please ignore the Diet Coke on the window sill, I really need to find a coffee table)

Pet Update

Licorice is MIA, and it's freaking me out. She showed up Saturday night for the party, hung out in a corner of the yard. . . but I haven't seen her since, and I'm worried. I over slept on Sunday (as expected) so I thought that maybe she just gave up on me yesterday morning, but when she didn't show up last night or this morning the worry set in. . .

I'm afraid to leave food out for her when she's not around because there has been an annoying little leopard cat hanging about, and I don't want to feed her inadvertently (when I say annoying, I mean annoying). If she doesn't go home soon [she is not a stray] I will take her to the pound, she is quite pretty, so she would be scooped up no problem.

But back to Licorice - I am really hoping that she is there waiting for me when I get home from work this afternoon, if she's not, well, I'm not sure what I'll do. . . I can't very well put up "lost cat" signs for a cat that has yet to let me touch her.

Thank Goodness

I have survived the weekend!! Woohoo, my party went off without a hitch, I didn't have a nervous breakdown, and there was no bloodshed. I call that a good weekend.

I would have pictures to share, but my little sister stole my camera. Emmett behaved himself, I am a very proud mama. Oh, and I still have plenty of food left over, so if anyone wants some shrimp cocktail just stop on over after work ;)

More on the party once I get my camera back.

Sneak Peek

Here is a quick sneak peek at my Christmas tree. It has been up since before Thanksgiving, but with Emmett and my holiday party coming up this weekend, I haven't had a chance to take proper pictures of all my decorations. Hopefully this will have to hold you over until after Saturday.

I like sparkle.

Christmas Television - Personal Favorites

When it comes to my personal favorite Christmas Specials, tradition is the key. Give me a good old fashion claymation any day:

  • "Santa Claus is Comin' to Town" - Wednesday, 12/10 at 8pm
  • "Rudolph's Shiny New Year" - Wednesday, 12/10 at 9pm and Thursday, 12/11 at 7pm

  • "Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer and the Island of the Misfit Toys" - Thursday, 12/11 at 9pm and Monday, 12/15 at 7pm
All on ABC Family

Throw in some classic animations:
  • "Frosty the Snowman" - Friday, 12/12 at 8pm ET on CBS.
  • "A Charlie Brown Christmas" - Monday, 12/8 at 8pm and Tuesday, 12/16 at 8pm on ABC.
And to top it all off "A Christmas Story" (24-hour marathon begins Wednesday, 12/24 at 8pm on TBS) which I leave on all day. My love for this movie goes so deep that I even asked for and received a Red Rider b.b.gun for Christmas last year - and then promptly jammed it so badly that it is now solely a decorative item.

Here are some of my family's favorite Christmas movies:

Emmett

It's been a full week and I can't believe I have yet to mention Mr. Emmett!! He is no longer the maybe dog of Casa de Laurendy - he is now a permanent resident of the little house with a pink door. . .

And boy is he exhausting!!

I know that once we have our routine settled I should be able to get back to a normal schedule, but until then I am a zombie!

Here are some pictures for your viewing pleasure:

"Hey, what is that thing in your hands?"

"A camera? Do you want me to pose?"

"Oh, oh, oh forget you, I found my bone!!"

Thanksgiving Dinner

Hey Y'all!

So after a long Thanksgiving morning drive my mom and I made it to Savannah where we met up with my aunt and cousin and then like every other out-of-towner in a 20 mile radius, we headed down to Paula Deen's restaurant, The Lady & Sons for Thanksgiving dinner.

We knew it would be busy but we were not prepared for the madness that greeted us outside on the street. There were hundreds of people waiting on the street for their names to be called, and these people weren't just people who showed up hoping to get in, these people, like us, had made reservations way in advance. We were preparing ourselves to wait the evening away when a hostess asked a few groups of people ahead of us if they wouldn't mind eating at the bar. They declined, and then another group declined, and then another. The hostess was about to go back inside when my mom caught her and said that we'd take the bar.

Our reservation was for 3:30, we were seated by 3:50!!

Because of the holiday there was no menu service, just a buffet filled with yummy southern style eats. I am not a big fan of turkey, but The Lady & Sons turkey was to die for, you didn't need a knife, you could cut it with your fork, and it had a nice smokey flavor to it with a little southern kick. Oh, and the macaroni and cheese, creamy perfection. Oh, oh, oh, and don't even get me started on the ho cakes - yes, I said ho cakes.

After dinner we headed back to the hotel and all complained about eating too much.

Now that's what I call a Thanksgiving.

Thanksgiving Morning

. . . spent in the car. . .

All pictures were taken from inside a moving car on I-95
