Retro Munchies

Because we were watching t.v. for most of my Mad Men party I tried to keep the food simple and easy to eat.  Originally I wanted to follow Betty Draper's menu from her "Around the World" themed dinner party, but as soon as I saw chicken livers in one of the recipes, I decided that just using her them might be a better idea.

We had Greek spinach pies, Swedish meatballs, Italian meats, Swiss cheese, Mexican cocktails and I threw in some Lipton onion soup mix dip into the pot for retro's sake.

Alrighty the, that concludes Retro Week, back to our somewhat regular schedule tomorrow!

Mad Men Premiere House Party

Here are a few quick photos from last night's Mad Men Premiere House Party, I'll have more details on on the party later on, when I'm no longer trying to recover from an overly teased beehive -

One Place, One Space: Room and Board - Retro Living Room

Make Mine A Double

With my Mad Men Premiere party coming up so quickly I figured I had to refresh myself on the art of the classic cocktail -

Dry Martini
  • 4 parts gin
  • 1 part vermouth
  • 1 pitted olive
Pour gin & vermouth over ice into cocktail shaker, shake, then strain into martini glass, garnish with olive.

Gibson
  • 4 parts gin
  • 1 part vermouth
  • 1 cocktail onion
Pour gin & vermouth over ice into cocktail shaker, shake, then strain into martini glass, garnish with cocktail onion.

Tequila Sunrise
  • 2 parts tequila
  • 5 parts orange juice
  • 1/2 part grenadine
  • 1 cherry
Fill a highball glass with ice, pour in tequila & orange juice, let settle, add grenadine, let it settle to the bottom, garnish with a cherry.

Whiskey Sour
  • 2 parts rye
  • 1 part lemon juice
  • 1 teaspoon sugar
Pour rye, lemon juice, & sugar over ice into a cocktail shaker, shake, strain into an old-fashion glass.

Sloe Gin Fizz
  • 3 parts sloe gin
  • 2 parts sweet vermouth
  • 1 part lemon juice
  • club soda
Mix gin, vermouth, & lemon juice, pour over ice into a highball glass, fill with club soda.

Shirley Temple
  • 3 parts lemon lime soda
  • 3 parts ginger ale
  • 1 part grenadine
  • 1 cherry
Pour lemon lime soda and ginger ale over ice into an old-fashion glass, add grenadine and let settle, garnish with a cherry.

I tried to stick with cocktails that were super simple to make, not muddling or glass rimming involved - don't want to spend the entire party behind the bar.

Looking the Part

I had some fun over on Polyvore putting together some retro inspired outfits from Modcloth. Most of my clothes are "vintage inspired". I don't really have any actual vintage clothing pieces - it's really hard to find plus sized vintage.
