We'll Be Right Back
We're going to be taking a very brief holiday break. We'll be back on Friday with a couple of our annual Gift Guides! Until then enjoy these two performances from The Voice -
Nicholas David is like a real life Muppet, he says things like "shoobie do" as though it means something. Luckily he has the talent to back it all up.
Melanie Martinez version of Seven Nation Army is pretty darn awesome (and I'm not just saying that because it's one of my favorite songs). She makes it completely her own.
I really hope these two make it to the end.
Oh, and if you need quick, last minute Thanksgiving decoration here is the downloadable bunting I made last year.

DIY: Playful Suede & Wood Napkin Rings
While I love the napkin rings I made last year for Thanksgiving, I wanted something a little more modern and playful this year. Thus the suede and multi-colored wooden bead napkin ring was born. Man, I gotta think of a better name for this.
There are two versions of this DIY, a super duper easy one and a "gosh darn it why would you do that" one.
Supplies:
super duper easy -
- wooden beads in assorted sizes and colors
- colored suede cord (I got mine in the craft section of Walmart for $1)
gosh darn it why would you do that -
- wooden beads in assorted sizes and colors
- colored suede line
- a dremel with a drill bit (or a drill)
- some sort of clamp
- thread
If you are making the easy version all you have to do is:
- choose 7 or 8 beads of various colors and sizes
- cut a length of the suede cord long enough to string the beads on and leave you with excess
- string said bead on said cord, tie the cord together tightly
- then cut off any excess cording (leaving an inch or two hanging out)
That's it. . .
If you are up for the harder version (the one I did) all you have to do is:
- choose 7 or 8 bead of various colors and sizes
- cut a length of the suede cord long enough to string the beads on and leave you with excess
- take one of your larger beads and drill a hole into the side of it as shown in my lovely little diagram below. . .
I used a clamp to hold the bead tight so that I didn't mistakenly drill through my hand.
- thread the rest of the beads onto the length of cord
- cut two pieces of thread a few feet long
- thread one piece of the thread (yeah, I just typed that) through the hole you just drilled and out one side of the preexisting hole
- take the other piece of thread and repeat, but this time thread it out the other side of the preexisting hole
- tie each piece of thread to an end of the suede cord
- using the thread CAREFULLY pull the ends of the suede cord through the bead and out the hole you drilled
- pull the cording tight and tie a knot thick enough that it doesn't go back through the bead (I double knotted)
- repeat until you have enough napkin rings for Thanksgiving!
Now all you have to do is add a napkin and you are good to go!
Oh, and as always when using power tools - BE CAREFUL! Take safety precautions and all that jazz.

Your Elsie Fix
My little blogging buddy, she's got her own chair and everything. . .
And yesterday she gave me quite a scare. . . she went missing for a good part of the morning. As I was getting ready to leave for work I couldn't find her. There have been a lot of people coming in and out of my house and they aren't always to careful about watching the door as they come and go. . . and yesterday morning was no exception. . . so when I couldn't find her I started to panic. I went on a full house search - looking under, on top of, and in everything in my house and still no Elsie. . . and then I had to go to work. . . I tried to keep my panic to a minimum, but I was not a pleasant person to deal with, that is for sure. After I left for work my mom came over and had the same search I had had and the same result, no Elsie. While she was there my mom kicked everyone out of the house in hopes that Elsie would reappear, no such luck. My mom is pretty awesome, she came back to my house again in the early afternoon. This time she had better results, there was Elsie, lounging in the front window as if she hadn't scared the heck out of us. Where she had been hiding we have no clue. I checked ever inch of this house before I left for work. I am now implementing a new rule: no one in the house unless I let them in. . . okay, well, except for my mom, dad and maybe Kelly. . .

My Memories Review & Giveaway!
The folks over at MyMemories.com contacted me a little while ago about reviewing their digital scrapbooking software. I've never been what you would call a scrapbooker, but I decided to go ahead and give it a whirl. . . and well, I'm kinda hooked.
The same night I downloaded the My Memories Suite I spent half the night just playing with it. Heck, that first night I never even opened an actual photo, I just messed around with all their embellishments.
While I don't know if I'll ever be a "scrapbook person", I will most definitely will be using this product again and again.
And you can too! Yep, MyMemories.com is offering up a copy of their scrapbooking software to one lucky reader of Laurendy Home! All you have to do for a chance to win is go visit MyMemories.com leave a comment on this post telling me what you're favorite digital paper pack is, or just tell me what you would use the software for.
The winner will be chosen randomly on November 18th. Make sure you leave a way for me to contact you in your comment (or you really can't win, duh). You can enter once per day between now and the 18th.
Good luck!
- the fine print -
This software giveaway is brought to you by MyMemories.com, but just to be clear, all the opinions shared here are all mine and mine alone. While I was not paid for this post, they did provide me with a free copy of the software and will be providing the winner with their copy.

Project Inspiration
I've been keeping a secret. . . there is a room in my house that I've never shared with you before.
A room that was so disgusting that when I bought the house I refused to go in it (let alone photograph it and share it with the world). Heck, even once we had cleaned out the junk I still wouldn't go in there, it was in such bad shape. There had been a pretty major roof leak at some point and there was pretty hardcore water damage not related to the roof leak. It was gross, just gross.
The little inspiration board above is a hint of what that room is, and after almost 3 years of working to clean it up, it is almost ready for it's world debut. I am so ready for it to be done and super excited to get to use it!

I Love Gold(en Wallpaper)
I know I've said it before, but I really never liked wallpaper until I bought a house with wallpaper unfriendly wall (they've got a rough plaster finish). . . But if I did have a house with nice flat walls I think they might be covered in some of the golden wallpapers above, all from Hygge & West -
In Need of an Opinion
I've been waiting to give the old blog a bit of a redesign for quite some time. . . but I'm all over the place with the my ideas and now I have four very different options that I'm working with. And because I am the most indecisive person I know, I can't make up my mind on which one to pursue.
That's where you come in, below are the starts for four very different new headers for Laurendy Home. Please leave a comment and tell me which direction you think I should go.
A.
B.
C.
D.
Remember, these are not the finished product, so judge accordingly.

Saturday Night
This past Saturday night a few friends and I got together for a local gathering in the park. There were great food trucks (the line for my favorite, BC Tacos, was crazy!). . .
. . . and a concert by Anthology, a local Beatles tribute band. They were pretty good.
It was a great, cheap evening out with friends.
And of course we had to take a someone-hold-the-camera-at-an-awkward-angle-so-we-can-all-get-in-the-picture shot. You like my new glasses?

What the Heck?!
So you may be asking yourself, "is that what I think it is?". . . and the answer is YES, yes it is.
That is a itty bitty front in my toilet! I went to flush one of Emmett's little presents and there he was. My dad swears that it is impossible for him to have come up the pipes, but then how the heck did he end up in my toilet?
